The Dirty Heads are back in Toronto!

It's been a few weeks, sorry for the delay! i've been getting ready for christmas and haven't had the time to blog, but I have some interesting news that I must share! This Friday December 17th we are lucky enough to have the Cali boys The Dirty Heads back in Toronto! Playing at the Phoenix, they will be accompanied by none other than the wicked stylings of Rebel Emergency. It's going to be a great night I can tell you now! I'll be there handing out free downloads for Walk Off The Earth. Make sure you grab your copy so you can get down with one of the best bands to have ever come out of Canada. If you're down and dirty with The Dirty Heads or Rebel Emergency then you're going to love WOTE's style of music. I'll definitely be blogging about this show once it's over and done with so check back to see how the night went! Until then, Spread the love of my blog and i'll help do the same with yours :)

Rockin it for Movember

As I wander the streets of Toronto this month i've increasingly run into more and more mustached men. The reason? Definitely not due to an increase in creepers around the city, but because it is Movember. Movember is a month-long charity event run by The Prostate Cancer Society during November in hopes of raising money and awareness for Prostate Cancer and getting men to go to the doctor and get their prostates checked out. A friend of mine told me about it last year when she was appointed Director of Movember Canada. This year now my boyfriend picked up the trend to raise awareness about this world-wide spread cancer, which his great grandfather died of several years ago. For more information on Movember, check out www.movember.com.

Even though these mustaches are awkward, funny, creepy, and many other adjectives, it's still one of my favourite times of the year because it means some of my favourite artists put on Movember Shows to raise money and awareness. Last Thursday I attended a show put on by Walk Off The Earth at The Red Rooster in Burlington, Ontario. I had been to the venue before and loved the small crowded indie feel to it. I missed the first few bands, but got there in time to see a rad chickplay some covers with her own style put into it..unfortunatley, and I feel horrible about this, I forgot her name :( so when I find that out i'll definitely make a post dedicated to her to show you guys her amazing talents! WOTE played an amazing set as usual, making it acoustic with a keyboardist and without a drummer, although Gianni had a few feet drums to keep the bass going. I didn't end up staying for the rest of the bands but it was a great night seeing how many people came out in support for Movember. This Friday November 26th, Red Rooster has another show for Movember with KO and Jeremy Chambers taking the stage. $15 in advance and $20 at the door, make sure you make it out if you can because it should be a good night! If I make it out to the show i'll make sure to let you all know how it went if you don't get there. Until next time,

40oz at Lee's Palace

What an amazing night! Last wednesday I attended 40oz to Freedom's show at Lee's Palace. They went onstage a bit later than i anticipated but that was okay becuase we were running late anyways :) The guys started off with my faaaavourite song, STP, and then went into almost all of my favourite Sublime songs including Badfish, Scarlet Begonias, and Date Rape. It was a great performance, although the crowd wasn't as big as it usually is for them; but then again it was a Wednesday night. The guys told us they didn't vote in Cali for the Marijuana Prohibition Law which is funny becuase the next day I found out the voters were 51% against to 49% for the legalization..i wonder what would've happened if they had voted..Overall the vocals and intruments were stellar that eveing and I could'nt have imagined a better performance! View the clip I got of my favourite part of the song STP, and make sure you come out for their next local show!

Walk Off The Earth in The Hammer

Auuulrightttt so i know i haven't posted the review of 40oz yet but it will come in due time with a wicked little video :) So last Friday November 5th I took a little trip down to Hamilton to see Walk Off The Earth play a show with Staylefish. The night had it's ups and downs (including a run in with the cops) but all in all it was a great night and show! It had been an all ages show starting at 6:30 so when we showed up at 9 the drunks were in full effect with a couple bar brawls here and there and underagers who had had one too many pre-drinks. I definitely prefer 19+ shows but anywhere WOTE is playing i will go. They have had a few changes in the band the last few weeks, with Petey Pablo leaving the drumming scene to focus on the management side of the band which means they have been trying out new drummers. The lack of knowledge about their music with the drummers lead to not all of my favourite songs being played but at least they still played my number one favourite, Coolin'. My friend Chantelle is a wicked drummer and i'm trying to push her to try out for the band; even Gianni was down for it! After some drinks with the guys we headed back to the stage to watch a few Staylefish songs, with Dreddie ripping up the stage as usual. Overall the bands played well (actually i can't say that for the previous bands) but WOTE and Staylefish did their thing as usual, coming out with great success! I've also been offered help from a band mate of mine for work after i'm done school and an apprenticeship during school so i'm hoping all of that will follow through nicely :) Great friends, Great music, and Great beer made it a Great night for the books. I suggest you all check out WOTE and Staylefish if you haven't had the chance yet.

40oz To Freedom - Sublime Tribute

Yayyyy, so Wednesday November 3rd is coming fast! 40oz To Freedom will be performing at Lee's Palace and we can all count on an amazing show as usual. This will be my third 40oz show and im very excited because I always enjoy celebrating the original Sublime with others who love them as much as I do! The guys of 40oz are Dane Scott, Mark Leblanc, and Terry Davis. Their energy on stage is wicked and they always make sure to play my favourite song STP when i'm at the show :) So come out on Wednesday if you can, you won't be disappointed! For those of you who don't make it i'll be sure to write about how the show went at the end of the week so check back in :)

Reggae Show a Success!

Alriiiiight, so last Saturday (Oct.16) was the reggae show at Lee's Palace (one of my favee venues) with the bill - Staylefish, Street Pharmacy, Walk Off The Earth, Two Crown Kings but there were some wicked special guests too! Staylefish were pretty rad, unfortunately Jay (previous lead singer) was at the show but did not perform with them :( howeverrrrr he DID perform with WOTE! Street Pharmacy put on a bomb show with their new bassist as well, adding in tons of their awesome old reggae jams and a few newer songs from their newest album where they have diverted to a bit more of a rock sound similar to Jimmy Eat World. Apparently their old bassist came up for a song but i was somehow unaware..ahem...lol. WOTE was amazinggggg as usual, having their friends from The Johnstones play brass and Jay Duwyn (former Staylefish) on the mic for a couple songs as well! Not to mention at the end they had tons of the nights performers join them such as Dreddie from Staylefish. I did not stay for Two Crown Kings so i'd love some feedback on how they were! It was an awesome night and I definitely suggest all bands to reggae lovers around the world.

Until we meet again, one love!

The Casbys 2010

Hey Everyone!

I'm new here, so check out my other sites for more of my info at the top of this page as well as this one. Alright so i checked out the casbys last night and stayed for about half of the show. Hot Hot Heat played first, starting off strong! Next was my man Ko who rocked the house hard as usual! i can't wait to see what he does next, because if he keeps up with his grounded-indie status i think he's gonna revolutionize a lot in the music world..I'm all for keeping your roots! After seeing him, who i went to the show for, ended up catching the end of Elias and a few songs by The Trews who were pretty rad as well :) after that we ended up leaving to go to the Vapour Lounge where a supppper wicked comedy show was going and they were actually funny this time!
Check out Ko's facebook - facebook.com/konationmusic to see some casby vids with me in them!! anyways, in class listening to my teacher convincing us to create as many websites as possible to promote ourselves and our bands so i gotta bounce! live music, love music, and cherish music!
one love,
